“Opening a book is beneficial” is an idiom used by ancient people to reward reading. I used to feel misled by the ancients after reading a bad book. Now being a little wiser. I don’t feel deceived by the ancients anymore. In a word, one can gain insight into its benefits after reading a good book, while to figure out the deficiency of a bad book is rewarding as well. What Confucius means by saying “’If three of us are walking together, at least one of the other two can be my teacher” is not necessarily a positive example. On the contrary, it also holds water in offering us a negative example as a warning. Therefore, once I would not accept books with fixed reviews, but now I get to take interest in whatever books. It probably is a sign of progress.
