The Three Gorges Hydropower Station, also known as the Three Gorges Dam, is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province. It was first built in December 1994 and completed in May 2006. The project is a concrete gravity dam, with a total length of about 2 309 meters, a height of 185 meters and a water-storage height of 175 meters. It is the largest hydropower plant in the world and the largest engineering project ever built in China, which is the culmination of the wisdom of countless engineers. The development of the Three Gorges hydropower is an important milestone in China’s sustainable development, especially in clean energy development. In addition to power generation, the Three Gorges Dam also serves the functions of shipping, tourism, and water resource utilization.
