Zhang Qian was China’s first great explorer. He fearlessly overcame numerous challenges and embarked on two expeditions to the Western Regions. Zhang Qian established trade relations between China, West Asia and Europe and facilitated the transportation of Chinese silk and silk fabrics to these regions, thus opening up the famous “Silk Road” in history. At the same time, he also introduced the customs, geographic culture and unique species of the Western Regions to the Central Plains, greatly broadening people’s horizons.
As historians pointed out, without Zhang Qian’s missions to the Western Regions, the opening of the Silk Road and cultural exchanges between the Han Dynasty and the Western Regions or Europe would have been impossible.
