Located 46 kilometers south of Tian’anmen Square, Beijing Daxing International Airport was put into operation on Sept. 30, 2019. Construction of the giant project began in 2014, with more than 40,000 workers on the site at its peak. The compact design of the terminal allows the maximum number of aircrafts to be parked directly near its centre, providing passengers with great convenience. The terminal has a total of 82 boarding gates, but passengers can get to any of them within 8 minutes after passing through the security check. The design of the airport can ensure 300 takeoffs and landings per hour. The annual passenger volume of the airport is expected to reach 100 million in 2040, making it the busiest airport in the world.
