About three decades ago, China was known as the “Bicycle Kingdom”. But the popularity of the two-wheeled mode of transport began to fade as many bikes were replaced by their fuel-powered competitors.
But recent years have witnessed a resurgence of the ordinary bikes across China, with an increasing number of people choosing cycling instead of driving to workplaces, to schools or to go sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing schemes, initiated by start-ups like Mobike and Hellobike, has brought the trend to a new height.
