Internet Slang

With the wide spread of the Internet, the Internet slang such as “Po-fang” “emo”, and so on, enjoys great popularity among teenagers nowadays.

The reason for this phenomenon can be accounted for from the following two aspects. On the one hand, the Internet slang is very interesting. It can make the chatting online funnier, which can attract others’ attention. On the other hand, the Internet slang can improve the efficiency of online chatting. However, it has greatly influenced students’ learning, especially language. The overuse of the Internet slang will lead to the lack of proper pronunciation, grammar and numerous misspellings in writing. Some teenagers even use them in essay writing, which decreases the preciseness.

From my point of view, the Internet slang can mislead students’ learning, which will hinder their future development. We can use the Internet slang for fun, but we cannot apply it to the formal language. Therefore, for the sake of their future development, teenagers had better refrain from the Internet slang.
