Students’ Preference: Internet or Library
In the past five years, as is shown in the bar chart, students’ time spent in the library dropped tremendously from 20 hours per week to about 11, while their time spent on the Internet soared from approximately 6 hours per week to about 18.
Several reasons, I believe, can account for this phenomenon. First of all, the development of IT has offered us an easier access to the Internet, thus an increasing number of students have become the regular netizens. Secondly, the Internet is tempting with its availability of massive information compared with the library, and everything is at hand in a few clicks. Thirdly, it must be pointed out that the Internet also provides multiple entertainments extremely appealing to young students, some of whom, unfortunately, have become online game addicts.
According to the previous discussion, we may safely come to the conclusion that much attention should be placed on students’ preference for the Internet than library, and that if they can avoid the pitfalls on the Internet and make good use of it, they will have a fruitful and meaningful school life.
