Major in Science or Humanities?

In terms of selecting humanities or selecting science as students’ majors, there is a fierce debate among parents and students. Opinions vary dramatically according to different considerations. For the majority of parents, they insist that be it studying or working, all these should serve for making more money in the future, so they think students should select science. Students themselves are more likely to choose majors meeting their interests without considering the long-term plan. For my part, I agree that students should select humanities as their majors. Reasons are showed below.

First of all, as society develops, people tend to concern more about money, less about humanity. And this emphasis on the development of economy and the ignorance of the cultivation of humanities have lead to many social problems, such as environmental pollution, demise of morality and indifference to others. Therefore, society needs humanities. Secondly, life needs humanities because humanities can help to develop people’s interests, cultivate their taste and improve life quality. Finally, people need humanities because people can get along well with others and cope with problems well with humanities.

In a word, only with the development of humanity can we live more happily than ever.
