Bus was once the main means of transportation for the Chinese people. In recent years, cities have been annoyed by increasingly severe traffic jams as a result of the rising number of private cars. A large number of cities have been making efforts to improve their bus services as a way to encourage more people to travel by bus. Bus facilities have been renovated continuously and bus speed has also risen drastically. Nevertheless, bus fares are still quite cheap. At present, many local elderly citizens are able to take the bus for free in most cities.
