In 2022, the Ministry of Education released the curriculum standard for labor education in compulsory education. The standard has made labor education an independent course, requiring students to take courses on labor skills at least once a week starting from the fall semester of 2022. The new standard sets corresponding goals for different grades. For example, primary school students in fifth and sixth grades are expected to master the skills of cooking two or three home-cooked dishes. By participating in labor education activities, students gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese values and enhance their sense of responsibility and confidence gained from labor.
