Chinese ink and wash is a very unique genre of painting in the world. It uses little or no color but typically employs black ink in different shades to white paper. Ink and wash is to Chinese painting what oil painting is to Western painting. As a typical representative of Chinese painting, it is also one of the styles that best represent the spirit of Chinese fine arts. Chinese advanced papermaking technology provided a solid foundation for the emergence of ink and wash. At the same time, the art form of traditional Chinese calligraphy exerted a direct influence on it.
