A Volunteer Activity to Help the Elderly in Nursing Home

A volunteer activity was organized by the Student Union and participated by many students on June 13 th to assist elderly people in the local Nursing Home, which turned out to be a huge success.

Upon their arrival, the volunteers were warmly welcomed by the elderly. They help the elderly make beds, wash clothes and clean rooms and the common areas. Besides, the volunteers also taught the elderly how to browse videos and play games on mobile phones, which aroused their interest in the high technology. Also, the volunteers accompanied the aged by chatting about their studies, hobbies or families and singing songs. When asked about their feelings about such an experience, the volunteers responded “It’s a wonderful experience and we really enjoy it, for it taught us how to care for others in need”.

All in all, the activity benefits not only the elderly, who get mental pleasures, but also the students involved, who enjoy happiness from lending a hand to others.
